Estudios básicos y aplicados de enfermedades inflamatorias intestinales: alergias alimentarias, enfermedad de Crohn y colitis ulcerosa
Se trata de enfermedades crónicas que se generan por mal funcionamiento del sistema inmune, en el que se reconoce en forma anómala antígenos de la dieta y de la microbiota. A través del estudio del sistema inmune de la mucosa intestinal nuestro objetivo es comprender las bases inmunológicas de estas patologías y desarrollar estrategias de inmunoterapia correctiva. A partir de la regulación de las células del sistema inmune por parte de las galectinas estudiamos el rol que tienen estas proteínas en la regulación de la fisiología de diferentes células de las mucosas (enterocitos, colonocitos, linfocitos T y fibroblastos). El desarrollo de un modelo murino de alergia alimentaria dependiente de IgE y la aplicación de modelos de colitis nos han permitido profundizar los estudios mecanísticos, a partir de observaciones realizadas en muestras de intestino de pacientes. Asimismo estos modelos nos permiten estudiar y optimizar las terapias desarrolladas.
